More so
than at any other point in history, our society functions on the accessibility
of information. Graphic communication has always given form to information,
responding to client and audience needs. Now, traditional boundaries
of graphic communication are shifting, opening opportunities using new
technology such as digital imaging, hypermedia and interactive environments.
Graphic
Communication at CCS will prepare you for the role of an inquiring,
thinking visual communicator. Youll become adept at using new
technology, applying critical thinking skills and giving form to solutions
aligned with the diverse needs of cultures through courses that examine
typography, design, history, ideation and visualization methods, research
skills and new media methods.
By the
time you graduate, youll have excellent technical and conceptual
skills. Youll develop the problem-solving skills and adaptability
to fast-changing conditions essential to professional success. The department
has an exceptional record placing students in internship positions and
careers. In 1994, CCS grads won 321 Caddy Awards Ñ the Detroit advertising
communitys highest prize.
ILLUSTRATION
Illustration is a unique mix of computer abilities, graphic communication
skills and artistic talent. At CCS, youll develop in all three
of those areas. First youll acquire solid foundation skills
in graphic communication; then youll focus on drawing and painting.
Meanwhile, youll also learn to use the most up-to-date computer
equipment Ñ as a way to augment, not replace, your artistic ability.
By the time you graduate, youll be prepared for a successful
career in book and magazine illustration, advertising, traditional
cel animation or comic book illustration.
ART
DIRECTION
Youll prepare for an exciting career as an art director at an
ad agency, where youll be the creative link among copywriters,
illustrators, photographers, account reps and clients. Here youll
build high-level skills Ñ and a substantial portfolio of work to help
you in the working world.
GRAPHIC
DESIGN

ethernets, interactive digital environments and traditional communication
systems, has created an accelerated need for visual communicators.

and to act as a visual communication consultant.Career opportunities
