An acceptable
portfolio is one that exhibits technical and conceptual preparation
for college-level work at CCS. All portfolios must include drawing.
For photography or crafts applicants, the emphasis should be on photographs
or craft work.
- Draw
from observation of actual objects, scenes, and people. You may include
work from your imagination.
- Include
accurate line drawings and good examples of finished, fully-rendered
drawings using a full range of light, gray and dark values.
- If possible,
include figure drawing or partial figure (hands, feet, etc.), or portraiture.
- If using
photographs as a reference, draw from one you have taken or altered.
Do not include direct copies of someone else's image.
- Be original.
We would like to see your ideas about a subject.
- Consider
the entire picture surface; try not to isolate one object in the center
of the page.
- Include
some pieces that are larger than 9" x 12", excluding photographs.
- Edit
your work. Quality is more important than quantity. Ten great pieces
are better than 20 that are inconsistent. Your recent work is usually
the strongest.
- Present
your work neatly. Matted or mounted work is preferable, but not required.
- Submit
high-quality photographs or slides of large or 3D pieces.
- Label
slides and photos of your work with your name, size, and an arrow
indicating the top. Enclose slides in protective, clear plastic sheets.
